Duncan McFarlane 是劍橋大學工程系工業資訊工程教授、聖約翰學院院士，同時擔任製造研究所分佈式資訊與自動化實驗室（DIAL）主任，長期深耕工業自動化與數字供應鏈領域，在學術研究與產業轉化領域均有卓越成就。他擁有墨爾本大學工學學士與劍橋大學博士學位。1980至1994年間，他在澳大利亞必和必拓（BHP）擔任工程與研究崗位，積累了豐富的工業實踐經驗。1995年，他加入劍橋大學工程系，歷任工業自動化系統講師、服務與支持工程教授（2006-2011），2011年起升任工業資訊工程教授。 他的研究領域聚焦分佈式智能工業自動化、低成本數字工業解決方案、製造與物流領域的彈性可重構系統，過往亦深耕RFID集成、追蹤系統、工業資訊價值評估等方向。他曾擔任自動識別中心（Auto-ID Center）歐洲研究主任（2000-2003），主導劍橋自動識別實驗室（2004-2021），牽頭航空領域 Aero ID 等關鍵項目，探索RFID技術在航空工業的應用價值。此外，他也積極推動學術成果產業化，2006年聯合創辦RedBite Solutions Ltd，專注工業RFID與追蹤解決方案。此外，他還曾主導波音-劍橋合作項目（2017-2022），參與英國「智慧製造互聯工廠中心」研究，並在新冠疫情期間牽頭團隊為當地醫院提供工業工程支持，獲英國皇家工程院院長特別獎，同時擔任劍橋大學無症狀新冠學生檢測項目物流負責人。當前，他仍牽頭「低成本數字製造」等重要研究項目，持續推動數字技術賦能工業升級。
