Prof. Patrick Baert是英國皇家藝術學會院士、劍橋大學社會理論學教授、塞爾文學院院士，並曾擔任劍橋大學社會學系院長。其在社會科學哲學和社會理論領域貢獻卓著，他宣導併發展了一種新實用主義的社會科學哲學，強調社會研究不應僅致力於解釋世界，更應探索生活的多種可能性，幫助社群重新描述和概念化自身及其預設。他還提出以「定位理論」為核心的分析框架，用以研究知識份子及其公共干預行為。此外，他對二十世紀以來的社會理論有系統性的梳理，並著有《社會理論在二十世紀及以後》、《社會科學的哲學：邁向實用主義》以及《存在主義時刻：薩特作為公共知識份子的崛起》等著作。近年來，Patrick Baert也將目光聚焦於新興科技，他的研究重點開始轉向AI對人類日常生活帶來的挑戰與機遇。
